Kylie Jenner Lip Kits: Are They Worth It?

By now you have probably already seen enough reviews and pictures and heard enough about Kylie Jenner’s lip kits… but since I finally jumped the bandwagon, I thought I would share my thoughts with you all on the products I bought!

I purchased two kits in two different shades (choosing just two was incredibly hard) – Posie K and Mary Jo K. Each lip kit costs $29 and comes with a matte liquid lipstick and lip liner. Also how cute is the packaging? I love the simplicity of it.

They actually now offer single liquid lipsticks and lip liners for some of the shades which is great, but I am kind of glad I didn’t have that option when I bought mine because I probably would have spent a lot more money… 🙂

Here are the swatches for the lip liners and liquid lipsticks (Posie K is on the left, Mary Jo K is on the right).

So here is the thing, I LOVE the colors I chose. But – Posie K does not exactly match the color on the box. It’s a bit lighter and a bit more of a dusty pink, which is what I actually prefer so I don’t mind that it doesn’t match. It is kind of a pet peeve of mine when colors aren’t true to the packaging. Mary Jo K is an exact match to the color on the outside and I loooove the shade of red. It’s a “true red” so there are no orange under-tones and it doesn’t make your teeth look yellow (which is something I always try to avoid). Both of the shades are very flattering for my skin tone and they also smell nice.

The consistency is another story. They both go on super smooth, dry in a few minutes and aren’t even a tinyyy bit tacky which is awesome. Posie K actually gets a little bit lighter as it dries which I really like. Over time however, they both start to get very, very drying (Mary Jo K is a lot worse in this aspect). Like most liquid lipsticks, if you apply a lot of layers, it’ll become a bit uncomfortable over time. So personally, I try to do one layer over all my lips. I also tried to just use the lip liner all over my lips and that actually felt very nice throughout the entire day. The pigmentation isn’t as strong, but it’s definitely another option!

Now the big question – are they worth the price? Truthfully, I’m not sure.

I don’t regret purchasing them because I love the colors and the formula. Most liquid lipsticks become drying over time (if you know of one that doesn’t please let me know so I can buy them ASAP). However, $29 is a hefty price, and with the huuuge array of liquid lipsticks out there, you can definitely save and get other ones instead.

If you want the specific shades that the Kylie Jenner lip kits come in, then I say go for it! Otherwise don’t, because you can go and swatch other brands in stores and choose a shade that way, instead of guessing which shade you would want and potentially buying one that you won’t like after you’ve already paid for it.

I had my eye on Mary Jo K for months, especially after reading this article on Cosmo, but Posie K was more of an impulse buy for me.

Do you own any of Kylie Jenner’s lip kits? Are you planning on buying any? Let me know if the comments below and let me know if you know of any dupes that I could look into for some of the other shades! I reaallly like the shade Exposed.
